Wayne Filer - Front Row Cornet
About Wayne:
Wayne comes from Berwick upon Tweed, a town not known for brass bands so was raised in a wind band. His introduction to brass bands was whilst he was studying at the Royal Military School of Music where he began to play with Runnymede Band which then became Thames Brass playing Rep where the band won the 2nd section area in 1999. Upon leaving Kneller Hall in 2000, Wayne posted to North Yorkshire to the Normandy Band of the Queens Division and then the Heavy Cavalry and Cambrai Band where he was appointed principal cornet. In the 9 years whilst in the North-East, Wayne played for many of the areas top bands such as, BHK (UK) Ltd band, Fishburn, Reg Vardy, Lockwood Brass, the Harrogate Band in the top section on front row and many of the local lower section bands most notably as principal cornet of the Barnard Castle Band gaining a 4th place at the national finals in 2006. In his time in the Army, Wayne has been fortunate to travel extensively throughout Europe, and visit countries such as Canada, Kuwait, Iraq (during Op Telic), Cyprus, Sudan, Saudi Arabia and the Falkland Islands. He has also performed with top orchestras and celebrities most notably the Halle Orchestra, Scottish National Opera, Westlife, Pavarotti, Katherine Jenkins, Bon Jovi, to name a few. Wayne is currently posted to the Band of the Royal Logistic Corps as principal cornet where he lives locally with his wife Kathy (3rd Cornet) and his 2 dogs, Zak (patterdale terrier) and Kym (Rotti).
