Matt Tallamy - Percussion
About Matt:
Matt started playing the drums in the 4th year at Primary School and shortly followed his big brother into his first brass band, Liss Band, when he wasn't much taller than a postage stamp and could barely read music (he is now taller, but some things never change!!). Matt joined pretty much every band he could in secondary school, ranging from Orchestras to Jazz Bands and from Rock bands to Irish Folk bands. On moving to college to study his A Levels he joined the Alton College Jazz Band and Big band, where he was described as “The loudest drummer a Jazz Band has ever seen”. Matt moved to Guildford to study some kind of dodgy science degree in 1999, where he joined the University Wind Band for four months, played in one concert before finally coming to his senses and joined Friary in January 2000. At Friary Matt hits everything far too loudly and refuses to play anything that requires any sort of talent, although his ‘Brass Band Metronome’ playing skills have improved vastly in his six or so years with the band. One day Matt might learn to play tuned percussion, although he has been known to set the Glockenspiel up the wrong way on the contest stage. Matt is also a member of the Band’s Management Team, and his philosophy on banding is ‘Its not the winning that counts, it’s the Curry afterwards’. Out of band Matt works for some big American IT Firm, plays in 'The Swing Junkies' Jazz Band (Check out www.SwingJunkies.com) and ‘The Good Fortunes’ Function Band (if you ever need a band for your Wedding or Social Event then Matt’s your man!). Any other time he has left he spends trying to convince his lass that playing in a Brass Band actually is a good use of time.
